Today, one of my regular home user clients had an issue with her Canon wireless printer. Her Mac OS X computer was no longer recognizing the printer as being ready / connected. Instead it appeared as offline to the Mac. The printer was a multifunction device (e.g. a scanner, copier, fax, and printer combined). She also could not get the scanner to interact with the Mac.
We resolved this by taking the following steps:
1. Downloading and installing the most recent scanner and printer driver packages from Canon (note that there were two packages – one for the scanner software and one for the printer driver)
2. Re-adding the printer by going to System Preferences > Print & Fax > clicking on the “+” icon to add the printer, and searching for other printers (the Canon IPP printer was available as a network printer from the driver install)
We were then able to print and scan (using the Canon scanner software under “Macintosh Hard Drive” > “Applications”…we were also able to scan using the native “Image Capture” application by opening the application, clicking on the “Devices” menu, Browsing for devices, and clicking on the “Use Twain” option.
